When a flange face becomes worn, it can lose the ability to provide a secure and tight seal, resulting in leaks that release hazardous substances or valuable fluids from the system. The loss of containment can have severe environmental, safety, and financial implications. These factors make it imperative that any worn flanges are identified and repaired promptly to ensure the refinery’s safe and efficient operation.
The inspection team reported the worn flanges to the onsite CR3 maintenance team, who assessed the extent of the damage and devised a comprehensive plan to repair all the affected flanges within the allocated shutdown timeframe. CR3 used several different sizes of flange-facing machines to restore integrity to each of the damaged flanges, enabling the refinery to resume its operations without any impact on its shutdown schedule.
CR3 can provide onsite repairs and refurbishment of flange faces up to 120 inches in diameter using our 2-axis and 3-axis milling machines and bolt extraction and thread refurbishment machines to remove snapped or seized studs.
