A petrochemical plant operator contacted CR3 to perform an urgent repair on a pipeline that was leaking liquid ammonia.

The ammonia line was operating under process conditions of 200°C and 21.2KG/CM2. An inspection found that the leak was occurring near the flowmeter connected to the pipeline.

Our online leak sealing team immediately responded to the request and arrived promptly to survey the site, ascertain the severity of the leak and record the necessary measurements. The team then submitted a repair design with calculations for the client’s approval.

The client duly approved the design, and the team fabricated a bespoke carbon steel enclosure. Compounds suitable for this application were injected into the damaged area of the pipe, and the enclosure was secured in place. The repair was completed in less than two days, resulting in no disruption to the plant’s operation.
