CR3 recently completed a comprehensive robotic blasting and painting project in Malaysia for one of the world’s leading Oil and Gas companies, demonstrating advanced surface preparation capabilities and innovative technology integration.

The project encompassed the preparation and coating of a storage tank with an approximate surface area of 2,000 m². CR3 employed an advanced technology approach that combined a magnetic crawler robot with a closed-loop vacuum for clean and controlled blasting, followed by Ultra-High-Pressure Water Jetting (UHPWJ) to remove residual paint and heavy rust. Surface coating was performed with an automated robot, ensuring consistent and precise application across the entire tank surface and reducing paint waste.

The project encountered significant environmental and logistical challenges requiring adaptive management solutions. Frequent heavy rainfall impacted the schedule, necessitating adjustments to the work process and strategic planning to maximise productivity during favourable conditions. Water supply constraints necessitated alternative sourcing and transportation, while flash rust management required specialised mitigation strategies.

Through proactive project management and resource optimisation, CR3 successfully recovered the project timeline and delivered within original contractual commitments.

CR3’s execution delivered measurable results aligned with stringent contract requirements and industry standards. The project achieved 8,790 safe work hours without incident, demonstrating excellence in health, safety, and environmental (HSE) performance. The robotic approach eliminated the need for scaffolding, thereby removing the risks associated with working at heights. This outcome directly contributed to enhanced client value through improved safety metrics, reduced direct and indirect costs, and significantly reduced operational turnaround times.

This project exemplifies the transformative potential of robotic solutions in industrial maintenance operations, particularly within the energy sector. CR3’s technical expertise and proven track record deliver measurable improvements in safety, operational efficiency, and consistency compared to conventional methodologies.
