CR3 India (CRAI) was called upon to execute repair jobs on an ammonia converter outlet line that had developed a crack during operation. The scope involved weld repairs on the internals of the container under inert atmospheric conditions. Due to the operational status of upstream/downstream equipment, the line could not be isolated increasing the risks significantly. However, the client was successful in ensuring zero hydrogen levels inside the converter so that CRAI could proceed with the repair. The job required the simultaneous entry of two personnel using breathing apparatus.

The core jobs executed during the repair work included cutting of retainer strip, replacement of ceramic packing and welding the retainer strip back into position. It was a great relief to the client since the need for a full shutdown was eliminated owing to CRAI mobilizing and successfully executing the project in a short duration.
