CR3 Malaysia offshore team carrying out flange removal during an H2S absorbent changeout

CR3 Malaysia completed an offshore H2S absorbent change-out for an operator in Malaysian waters, delivering the campaign four days ahead of schedule and without incident.

The project called for the full changeout of the absorbent used to remove hydrogen sulphide from the process stream, carried out offshore under strict safety controls. Working offshore with twenty personnel, the team isolated and purged the system, monitored throughout for mercury and H2S, and carried out the mechanical works to open up the vessel. The team unloaded the spent absorbent and cleaned the vessel before loading fresh absorbent, then reinstated the system, leak-tested it, and preserved it. Onshore, the team handled logistics, port handling, decanting and full waste management, through to collection by a licensed waste disposal contractor.

The plan allowed 22 days for unloading. The team completed it in 18, including around four days of weather and operational holds, with fresh absorbent loading underway by day 19, well ahead of the planned schedule.

The result follows the recognition CR3 Thailand earned earlier this year, when it received two Certificates of Appreciation from a major operator for offshore Mercury Recovery Unit changeouts completed on time and without incident. Together, the two campaigns point to a consistent record of offshore work delivered safely and to schedule across the region.

Offshore change-outs place particular demands on planning, safety and coordination, with work carried out in confined spaces, under inert conditions, and at the mercy of weather windows. CR3’s catalyst and absorbent handling capability, backed by more than 30 years of operational experience, is built for exactly these conditions.
